A New Year, A New Blog (a sorta farewell)

imagesI think there is a point in 90% of bloggers lives, where you start getting sick of your blog. You go from posting a few times a week to a few times a month and before you know it, you haven’t posted in two or three months. The bloggers who blog on a weekly basis for 3 years or more are in my experience, the exception to the rule.

Ladies and Gents, I feel I am going to be the rule rather than the exception.

I’ve enjoyed my blog, but the reason I started it in the first place was to write about living in France and that was 18 months ago. Since then I’ve managed to write semi-consistently with posts about language learning, reviews on French-related products and life in Melbourne, Australia.

But my blog started when I was at a different stage of my life. When I moved to France I was a journalism grad fresh out of uni and looking to complete my gap year dream of time abroad in France. I still felt like a student, I was living at home and for the first time uncertain about my future.

Now after almost two years back from France living there is a pleasant but distant memory, I’m living more and more independently and I have just secured my dream job (which starts next week). I don’t have any plans to live in France again unless an amazing opportunity came up, or even to go back to Europe since I’ve got my eyes set on other destinations to explore (The Americas, Japan, South Pacific) etc.

So I want to say an official Au Revoir to this blog, in the sense that I will not be updating it regularly. It doesn’t seem to make much sense to keep it running since I haven’ t lived in France for so long, but that doesn’t mean I will never post here again. I still have a handful of unfinished blog posts which I might still upload if I feel the urge, or I might write a whole new blog series one day if I feel inspired. But there’s no point in putting any expectation out there that this is an active blog.

One thing I will do is keep checking back for new comments, I LOVE when people comment and I love replying to them and having discussions with people. I have a few other blogs on this account and I subscribe to a lot of other blogs, so I’m logging into WordPress at least once a week. So if you do want to comment on a post, even if the article is old  you will get a reply from me quickly 🙂

New Blogs

I do have a few more blogs out there, one is more of a project/more interesting to the general public and the other is more personal.

‘A Journey Through Dymock’s 101’ This is my attempt at reading through the entire list of Dymock’s (Australian bookstore) Top 101 books. Not sure how I’ll go with it, but I’ve always wanted to give it a try!

‘I’m (trying) to Quit Sugar’ Less than 12 months ago I read ‘I Quit Sugar’ by Sarah Wilson (Australian author but the book has just been published in the UK and will be published in the USA) and it changed my life. It completely changed my perspective on sugar and inspired me to quit the stuff for good. So I decided to write a reflective blog to track my progress, I didn’t show it to anyone at the time which explains why the writing’s a bit messy 🙂 But some of you out there who might be interested in doing what I did, may want to have a read of it!

Oh and this is happening this year:

mt-fuji-viewTwo week dream trip to Japan, here I come!!!

So thanks to all of you who have read, commented, liked, shared and subscribed to the musings of my mind for so long.

Please stay in touch! 🙂

I’ve Been Nominated for an Award!

I logged on today to find I not only had a brand new comment, but it came with an award nomination! 😀 Now it just doesn’t get much better than that!

I have been nominated for a Liebster Award by The Polyglut, thank you very much for the award – everyone go check out his blog too if you haven’t already! 🙂

As part of the Liebster award, I have to do the following:

– Post the award on your blog. (check!)
– Thank the blogger presenting you with this award and provide a link back to their blog (check!)
– Write 11 random facts about yourself
 (check! see below)
– Pay it forward and find 11 other bloggers with less than 200 followers who you think are deserving of the award and nominate them! (Hm… this is gonna be tough, read below to find out why!) Continue reading

Need Help Learning French? Visit My Pinterest!

pinterestlogo2The internet is full of a lot of information. Some of it good, some of it bad – some of it just plain wrong. One of the good pieces of information out there for me is Pinterest, especially if you’re wanting to learn a language like French! Or any language for that matter 🙂

I’ve been wanting to build up a resource of reviews of internet resources for French learning, and while I think I’ll still get around to that there is a bunch of little useful tools I find on the internet almost every day. Since I speak French almost fluently, I think I can confidently judge the good from the bad, the genuine from the scams.

So if you’re learning French, please feel free to check out or follow my ‘French’ board. It’s a little bare at the moment, but I’ve already discovered some really good stuff (such as a website where you can watch French movies for free, with the French subtitles! YAY! I’ve already learned a new word that I missed while watching LOL. ‘Elle est canon’ , roughly the equivalent of ‘she’s a knock-out’ in English).

The material I’ll pin is mainly for intermediate-advanced speakers, and I’ll try to build a collection of authentic French audio with native speakers and natural conversations.

If nothing else, I hope it inspires you to keep learning French and realise there are a lot of great resources out there for free! 🙂

I have also started a Japanese board, since that is my new foreign language – but I haven’t managed to put anything on it yet! I hope to build this up in time, but this board will definitely have more of a beginner focus since that is my level at the moment.

2012 in review – Thank you and Merci!

I’ve just had a look at my annual report for the blog, and I’m very happy! I finished this year with a bang with almost 2,000 views for the month (more than a 500 view jump from the previous month). Thank you so much for reading, liking, following, sharing and commenting – I will keep blogging in 2013 – let’s see where the year takes me 🙂

Je vous souhaite un joyeux novel an ! I wish you all a happy new year!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 8,300 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 14 years to get that many views.

Website Updates: Future Blog, New Layout & Japanese!

Hello Everyone!

New Layout

You’ll have seen some changes around here, namely my brand new layout! I decided I wanted a fresher and brighter ‘look’ for my blog and this was the best option out of all the ‘free’ ones haha I found another one that was a little less ‘romantic’ but it had no side-bar and I figured what’s the point of a blog without a sidebar? You can’t find anything in it! 🙂 So here we are with this new layout, hope you like it!

Growing and Expanding

My stats are continuing to increase every month, this month I’ve gotten over 1,200 views which for me is a new personal record! I’m also getting so many readers that I get spam comments every day! The true sign of getting popular on the internet I say haha

I know I’m not breaking any records here, but I like seeing my readership expanding, comments, likes and followers growing. I’ve been considering making a Facebook page for this blog, but haven’t decided yet…

My Laptop Commited Suicide…

Sorry for the delay in posting! I have a very good excuse – my computer tried to kill itself.

I was sitting on the couch when I started to smell something burning… it was coming from my lap! I could see the smoke coming out of its side and smelt burning wires. Naturally – I freaked and shut it off. I left it for a few days before posting an SOS on Facebook (via mobile).

My hilarious friends had this to say:

Me: so smoke started coming out of my laptop today – shit. Computer wizz friends, whats happening?!

Allyse i recommend a ring of salt because it sounds possessed :0
Georgia  It’s going to laptop heaven…
Claire May it rest in pieces.
Me: noooo u bitches its holding onto liiiiiife!!! :p i turned it off and hoping itll calm the fuck down by tomorow morning
Melinda Omg shit .
Allyse  i’ve been getting repeated visits from the blue screen of death for more than six months, and my laptop’s full of writing that hasn’t been backed up anyway. Danger? Ha! I walk on the wild side.

Samantha i feel this may be the universes way of telling me to start backing stuff up… Like ok, i can take a hint!
So…. I was in a bit of tech turmoil and my blog posts got delayed… My original laptop is still getting fixed, but I got a replacement one now so all is good for blogging 🙂

Stay tuned for a new post very soon!

Holy Shit… Someone’s Reading This?

Dear Readers,

I know I’m not the most active blogger on the internet, but I was surprised to see I got over 50 views yesterday even though I haven’t posted in over a month…

So it seems I’ve found an audience and some people are liking what I’m writing on here.

So I’ve started to think I should try to keep going with this blog ( I have heaps of draft posts and ideas that haven’t made it to the blog yet). But if you are reading this post, what types of articles do you want to read?
